One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu deserves all the attention that it gets for being an engineering and architectural masterpiece. Hiram Bingham is credited with bringing Machu Picchu to the rest of the world in 1911. It is the largest of the Peruvian Inca ruins and is believed to have been an important ceremonial site. Visitors will be impressed by the many plazas, temples, houses, storage facilities, sun dials, stairs that are still maintaining their purpose for more than 500 years since they were originally built and subject to intense weather and earthquakes. The natural surroundings only add to an already stunning view and no trip to Peru is complete without a visit to this sanctuary.
