Sacred Valley of the Incas

The Sacred Valley of the Incas was the center of the vast Incan Empire. This fertile land and excellent climate has been a major agricultural region for thousands of years. The extensive ruins stretch from the villages of Pisac to Ollantaytambo before you eventually arrive at the citadel of Machu Picchu. The Urubamba and Vilcanota Rivers flow through this beautiful landscape which is also home to the Quechuan descendants who still maintain the same customs and traditions of their ancestors.

Cusco – Pisac – Urubamba – Ollantaytambo – Chincheros – Cusco

You will be picked up from your hotel between 7:55 – 8:20AM, depending on your hotel location. After a short drive we enter the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Our first stop will be Pisac where we will visit the Inca site that functioned as the Southern Gateway to the Sacred Valley. It is known for its military, ceremonial and agricultural purposes. We will then walk through the local town of the same name and its colorful market. It is one of the last places in the Andes where the art of bartering is still practiced.

Next, we will pass through de town of Calca until we arrive to the town of Urubamba. Here we will get lunch (Not included in the price of the tour).

Our second stop will take us to the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, built to guard the Northern entrance of the Valley. It was designed to protect it from possible invasion from the various lower jungle tribes. As you walk through the quaint streets of the town and make your wayup the steps of the fortress, you will start to realize what an important strategic Military, Religious, and Agricultural Center it was during the reign of the Inca Empire. This is also the place where the Inca had their last stand against the Spanish before finally having to retreat and seek refuge at Vilcabamaba.

On our way back to Cusco, we stop off at the picturesque Andean Village of Chinchero (*) to visit the Royal Hacienda Ruins of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. We will admire a well-preserved Inca Wall in the Main Square and visit the beautiful Colonial temple built on Inca foundations, with puzzling frescoes in the portico.

Late in the afternoon (around 6:40pm), you will return to your selected hotel to spend the night.

The evening is free. We suggest strolling around the Main Square and its many restaurants and bars. Enjoy the night atmosphere, impressive architecture or a delicious Pisco Sour.

(*) Note: The visit to the Village of Chinchero depends on the time available.
